Last week, I saw this news blurb in the "Police Blotter" section of my local newspaper:
A man attempted to rob an Allentown pizza shop Monday night, according to police radio reports.
The man entered Little Caesar's at 1439 Allen St. at 7 p.m. and made the robbery attempt before fleeing west through the parking lot, police said.
No one was hurt, police said. The robber did not show a weapon, but said he had one. Police did not give any further details.
Let me get this straight. According to "The Morning Call" - the newspaper of record for the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania, where I was raised - the kind of story that constitutes a major crime is one in which the headline can be reduced to:
"Unarmed Man Doesn't Rob Pizza Place!"
Let it never be said that nothing happens in the Lehigh Valley.
